Steamer Two Myrtles

Built in 1899 at Manitowoc, Wisconsin, the steamer Two Myrtles began her career as an 80-foot cargo vessel under owner John Johnson. In 1908, she was purchased by the U.S. Lighthouse Service and converted into a lighthouse tender, helping maintain navigational aids across the Great Lakes. Renamed Clover in 1913, she returned to private ownership in 1934 when Leo Goetz of DeTour, Michigan, restored her original name.

The Wreck Today

By the mid-1940s, the Two Myrtles was abandoned at the Watson Dock complex on the north side of DeTour. Only the hull and a few artifacts remain today, resting in shallow water — accessible to snorkelers, kayakers, and divers with an interest in local maritime history.
