Fall is a slower season here. The light changes, the air cools, and after a busy summer there is finally room to be still. On September 25, the Sound Medicine Collective brings a 90-minute Sacred Sound Journey to the Brooder House at Drummond Island Resort.
You lie down and let the sound do the work. Adrienne White and Luke Andresen play a wall of gongs, hand pan, drums, crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls, chimes, mantras, Alchemy bowls, didgeridoo, and two bowls large enough to stand inside, which is how the evening begins. Their instruments come from artisans around the world, and each one carries its own story. No experience is needed. You do not have to do anything but rest.
The Sound Medicine Collective is a partnership between Adrienne White and Luke Andresen, a Michigan couple who own a wellness center called The Collective. Both are certified Master Reiki practitioners, and reiki is woven into their sound sessions. Both are trained in trauma-informed practice. Their sound tours have taken them from New York to the Teton Mountains, and now to Drummond Island. They have also released the first single from an upcoming album, Frequency Medicine, made with Detroit producer Gar Den Boi, using solfeggio tones, bass, and live instruments.
What to bring: a yoga mat, a blanket, and a pillow, or anything else that keeps you comfortable lying down for 90 minutes. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.
