Drummond Island Heritage Water Trail

With nearly 140 miles of shoreline, Drummond Island offers one of the most scenic freshwater paddling experiences in the Great Lakes. The Drummond Island Tourism Association Heritage Water Trail connects key cultural, historical, environmental, and geological sites along a 60-mile loop around the island.

Highlighted paddling destinations include Whitney Bay, Scammon Cove, Scott and Maxton Bay, the DeTour Passage Underwater Preserve, the Fossil Ledges on the north shore, and Marblehead on the island’s eastern edge.

Drummond Island is ideal for long-distance kayak touring, offering adventure, challenge, and unmatched natural beauty. Proper equipment, experience, and paddling partners are strongly recommended — solo touring is not advised.

Lodging is available at island resorts and campgrounds, including Fort Drummond Marine & Resort on Whitney Bay. Remote camping is permitted on state land with a DNR permit, available online or locally.
