Fossil Ledges

The Fossil Ledges offer a unique glimpse into the island’s ancient past. Along the limestone shoreline, visitors can spot visible fossils embedded in the rock—remnants of marine life from millions of years ago, when this area was covered by a shallow sea.

This scenic stretch of shoreline is a favorite for beachcombing, photography, and quiet exploration. Take your time walking the ledges, looking closely at the rock formations, and enjoying wide-open views of Lake Huron.

Access to the Fossil Ledges may require a high–ground clearance vehicle. Visitors can also rent a side-by-side or schedule a guided tour to reach the area more easily. Please remember to look, but don’t remove fossils, so this natural feature can be enjoyed by future visitors.
